Keep Your Child’s Smile Clean by Doing These Things

Keep Your Child’s Smile Clean by Doing These Things

Dr. Kenneth Pollary and our dental team believe your child deserves a top-notch smile. This is why we encourage you to do all you can to help their little chompers and gums. However, that might be a difficult task if you’re not quite sure how to keep them in tip-top shape. So, to help you, we have some tips we would like to share.

First, encourage your child to clean their smile. Have them brush their teeth twice a day, floss their smile once a day, and rinse their mouth daily. This is how they keep up on oral hygiene. If they are too young to do these things, it’s best if you clean their smile for them. When you clean their smile, try to make it a positive experience so they enjoy cleaning their chompers.

Second, make sure your child has a tooth-healthy diet. You can do so by limiting sugar consumption (because sugar creates cavities) and giving them plenty of fruits, raw vegetables, and dairy products. These things can wash bacteria away and strengthen the tooth enamel.

Third, protect your child’s teeth with dental sealants. Dental sealants are thin, clear barriers that are placed on the permanent back molars. They create a shield and protect the teeth from bacteria and plaque growth. This is helpful because oftentimes molars are tough to clean, and when they are hard to clean, dental issues are more likely to occur.
