Oral Health Care for Halloween: Halloween Checklist

It’s never too late to begin preparing your teeth for the onslaught of the sugar rush that often comes with Halloween. If you are planning on consuming excessive amounts of sugar during the festivities, it is important to make sure you have effective treatment plans in place to help neutralize the acids. If left untreated, dental abrasion can occur.

Dental abrasion refers to the wearing down of your tooth enamel. This Halloween, avoid highly acidic foods and beverages whenever possible. If they cannot be avoided, never consume them as a stand-alone snack, but rather as part of larger meals. This will help neutralize the acid and protect your teeth.

Never brush your teeth after consuming acidic substances, as your teeth are extra sensitive at this time and prone to dental damage. As an alternative, rinse your mouth out with water, use mouthwash, or chew sugarless gum to help stimulate saliva flow. When you do use your toothbrush, use low abrasive toothpaste and a toothbrush that has soft bristles. For any additional questions, contact us.
