Guarding Your Child’s Oral Health

If you stay up all night soothing a child, hang in there! You’ll sleep regular hours again. To help you keep your baby’s teeth healthy, we’ve put together a tiny bit of information for you on dental care for babies. If you have any further queries about this information, or if you’d like to take your child in for a visit, please get in touch with our office at 719-591-0750.

Although your baby would probably like sugar water or juice, giving them either of those drinks would be a temporary fix only. Just like with your adult teeth, excessive amounts of sugar can be dangerous. When you give your child a bottle, fill it with only milk, breast milk or formula. Your child’s teeth will be stronger and they’ll be less agitated in the long-run.

Another thing we commonly see is that some parents like to coat their child’s pacifiers in sugar or honey. Whatever you do, don’t do this! The extra amount of sugar will cause difficulties for your child’s teeth, eventually leading to cavities and worn-down teeth. Additionally, don’t lick or place your child’s pacifier in your oral cavity: doing so will probably cause a dangerous spreading of bacterial acids.
